Travel Rights

Although the playing field is presently tilted in favor of the travel industry, consumers do have some travel rights. Here are websites that will explain those rights. Also, you can help secure some new travel consumer rights by supporting and becoming actively involved in getting new laws passed to even the playing field. Here is an organization that is helping us reach that goal:

FAA Rule 240 Governing Passengers and Delayed or Cancelled Flights
Consumer Travel Rights Center	Rule 240 is implemented differently by different airlines these days but it is an official rule. This site has links to printed copies of each airlines Rule 240.
Petergreenberg.com	He has excerpts from various airline contracts with their interpretation of Ryle 240 and lists those airlines that do not have interline agreements.

Coalition for an Airline Passengers' Bill of Rights (CAPBOR). This is the CAPBOR website founded by Kate Henni and other passengers stranded for 9 hours in 2006. It is the fastest growing air passenger rights organization with about 15,000 members. Please sign their online petition that goes to Congressman Mike Thompson. It only takes a few seconds and you can add your own comments to it if you like.

Travel Law. Judge Thomas A. Dickerson is the author of the standard work on Travel Law. This link will take you to a page with his background and an extensive collection of articles and court case summaries.

Classactionlitigation.info. Attorney Timothy E. Eble maintains this website and has available Judge Thomas A. Dickerson's travel law articles, as well as, other information for people desiring to pursue a lawsuit. His Legal Research page has the most extensive list and links to legal search engines and other legal resources of anyone we have found on the web.

Consumer Travel Rights Center. Al Anolik, the "dean of travel law" has an excellent website with information on traveler's legal rights for airlines, cruises, trains, car rentals, hotels and tours. The major airlines have filed "conditions of carriage" with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) guaranteeing their respective Rule 240s. ASTA Air Traveler's Rights. The American Society of Travel Agents has put together their "Air Traveler's Bill of Rights" guidelines.

Nolo Law Center -Consumer Rights. The well-known Nolo publisher of legal information for consumers has done a superb job of providing on-line information about travel law. use their search box to search their website for a specific travel topic.

U.S. Department of Transportation - Fly-Rights. This is their consumer guide to air travel and your rights as a passenger.

Fly Rights. IFG-inc has put together an excellent online Consumer Guide To Air Travel.

Independent Traveller.com - Passenger Rights. A good summary of your rights as a air passenger.

European Air Travel Rights. This site has information about your rights when you fly in European Union countries.

Air Travel Rights for the Disabled.. A comprehensive site that will answer just about any question you may have about the rights of handicap travelers.
