Notes: South Georgia Island belongs to Great Britain.  Sir Ernest Shackleton and his party made the first crossing of the island in 1913 to reach the Whaling Station that was there after a heroic sea voyage in a small boat with a few men from Antarctica where the rest of his crew were marooned on Elephant Island.  His entire crew was later rescued.
