| Elephant Island, off the coast of Antarctica, was made famous by the Shackleton Expedition. This is where, in 1916, he left 22 of his men as he and 5 companions made a daring and heroic voyage in a small boat 800 miles to South Georgia Island to seek help. They made it and all his men were rescued. Here is information on Shackleton's stay on the island.
