Notes: Micronesia is not a single nation, but a collection of different nations and territories. Some were previously part of the U.S. Trust Territory of Micronesia. The eight major districts of Micronesia are: Guam (United States territory), the Republic of Palau (independent nation), the Marshalls (independent nation); the Marianas (commonwealth associated with the United States), and the Federated States of Micronesia (Ponhpei, Yap, Chuuk and Kosrae). There are over 2,000 islands within these 8 districts.
