Languages: English Notes: South Georgia Island belongs to Great Britain. Sir Ernest Shackleton and a few men made landfall on the island in a small boat after a heroic voyage from Antarctica. They then made the first crossing of the island in 1916 to reach the Whaling Station that was on the other side. This was part of the heroic and successful effort to rescue his crew trapped in Antarctica. |
